Its cleantech solutions help nations to accelerate IR5.0 adoption and achieve their sustainable development goals. Renexus (M) Berhad is a Ministry of Finance registered company with a CIDB G7 status.

RENEXUS works with national institutions and industries to identify cleantech solutions, harness the power of disruptive innovations to leapfrog the linear path of progress to clean growth, higher productivity and a clean economy.

RENEXUS Group’s Cleantech Smart City “NEXUS ONE PLATFORM (NX1)” powered by AVEVA and Astrikos that systematizes Unified Operations Centre, is a true “System of Systems” approach of solving the complex challenges of Smart Cities that fulfil Environmental, Social Governance (ESG) measurements.

Digital Transformation of large infrastructure needs deep understanding of engineering technologies, Information technology along with engineering process and IT process as the infrastructure is operated with the combination of engineering solution like of control systems and IT solutions like CCTV camera surveillance and ERP. Renexus partner, Aveva bring in its industrial engineering and automation experience with a state-of-the-art platform “Unified Operation Center” which creates a solid foundation for digital transformation of infrastructure operations. UOC has been deployed in many mission critical operations including “NEXUS ONE PLATFORM (NX1)” which uses Information technology and operational technology convergence capabilities with the ability to integrated seamlessly with hardware and software solutions developed by solution vendors.

SHARED CHALLENGES ACROSS MANY INFRASTRUCTURE SEGMENTS

In past 2 decades our partner Aveva has engaged numerous customers in these segments across the globe. The challenges faced by these segments are similar in nature and operators are struggling to achieve higher operational efficiencies, sustainability and resilience. Our “NEXUS ONE PLATFORM (NX1)” Unified Operation Centre not only helps in mitigating these challenges of today but also established the futuristic operational model.

Renexus NX1 Clean Smart Cities 5.0 platform focus on digital transformation of smart cities. There are 6 subsegment of infrastructure industry covered:

Many cities are still taking the traditional approach to make Capex investment in expanding and increasing road numbers, water, energy, sewerage, public transports (etc) to ease the existing challenges however this approach is getting less sustainable over time as more people have started migrating to the cities.

It is becoming essential to move forward with the approach of digitizing infrastructures and understand how the “improved, digitized infrastructure” is used and starts to operate through digital processes.

Many city administrators want to embark on the journey of making their city smarts but are struggling to have clear road maps and how to even begin the journey as the city operations are complicated and diverse with one another. In addition, there are many technologies solutions are available in the market and there are multiple types of solutions that are already being deployed by city departments which adds on more confusion.

NX1 Clean Smart Cities 5.0 platform is a comprehensive solution that will ensure leverage on existing investment and uplift the operational efficiencies across the departments.

GLOBAL TRENDS FOR PAST 2 DECADES

Rapid Urbanization

Rapid Globalisation

Both trends increase the population of the cities and create a substantial operational issue as the city’s infrastructure has been built keeping in view a certain number of population. City administrators need to bring attention to areas like:

  • Vehicles carrying capacity of roads
  • Effectiveness of public transportation system
  • Adequate quantity and quality of portable water supply
  • The disintegration of electricity supplies
  • Law and order to accommodate urbanization

Other challenges are:

  • Obsolete/Ageing infrastructures
  • Climate changes
  • Citizen expectations

Our “NEXUS ONE PLATFORM (NX1)” Unified Operation Centre not only helps in mitigating these challenges of today but also established the futuristic operational model.

THE URBAN SYSTEM

  • Complex city operations include water treatment, water supply, law and order, waste management, waste collection etc. These services are privatized and some are delivered by the central government agencies.
  • The naturally diverse and interconnected operations.

However, if the city has an effective public transportation system but the law and orders are not well-managed, it will result in high crime numbers thus citizens will avoid commuting using public transport and using their private vehicles. This will cause a hike up in the number of transportation on the road causing traffic congestion, global warming and air pollution due to continuous harmful emissions. Industry productivity and the health index of the city will also decline. This shows that any city operation is an interdependent system and an interconnected process.

The transformation to a smart city will remain unsuccessful unless all services are operated with the highest efficiencies. This can be attained through the implementation of our NX1 Clean Smart Cities 5.0 Platform as a Service (PaaS), a digital transformation solutions technology. Therefore, defining a technology road map that includes these vital aspects is essential to succeed.

SMART CITY LIVEABILITY INDEX

The liveability index is generally measured by factors that provide quality of life in a city. (access to freshwater, education, housing, transportation, accessibility, infrastructure, economic activities, health care, safe, stable environment).

45% is the physical weightage for city infrastructure which means the city needs to improve on its physical infrastructure (water, energy, sewerage and focus on transportation, waste collection). 25% is social and institutional weightage while the other 5% is the economic weightage. To improve all of these areas, digital solutions need to be implemented.

The solution selection section shows the different departments’ solutions which can be implemented to achieve higher operational efficiencies.

City administrators can prioritize implementation of solutions based on budget availability and pressing need of improvement in the operational efficiency in a specific department or multiple departments.

UOC CAPABILITY MATRIX

Delivering a single version of the truth by integrating all available data sources

The NX1 Unified Operation Center UOC provide situational awareness, visibility on existing operations or incidences and department KPIs. This will help the city councils to make the right decision with a faster and accurate response to ensure quality and uninterrupted citizen services to increase and sustain the livability index of the city.

The Unified Operation Center has been architected with unique capabilities which are Information Technology and Operational Technology convergence. It is now able to integrate with IoT applications and devices.

  • Unified Central Platform: Allows integration with all types of technologies-based solutions like control systems which are controlling and monitor water and wastewater systems or traffic signaling systems or CCTV surveillance camera systems.
  • Unified Control Platform: Able to control all operations from the Unified Operation Center including departmental monitoring through integrating the data from the respective departments.
  • Unified Command Platform: Allow information sharing between different department systems and staffs vertically and horizontally for faster response to incidences and established multiagency response for critical incidences.
  • Unified Operation: This allows the city administrators to centralize critical operations or incidences which need multiagency collaboration or the events which can disturb critical citizen services.
  • Unified Decision Support: Enable authorities to use the Unified Operation Center as a decision support system.

These 5 capabilities enable a city to attain interdependency and a real-time, true interactive communication of the City command and control center for the entire city operations.

Success Stories

NAVA RAIPUR, India – In central India is the country’s first metropolitan greenfield smart city. It was planned From the ground up to deliver quality of life through safety , efficiency, sustainability and livability. Adopting world class land-use planning principles, the city has established a dedicated zoning system for residential, commercial and Industrial sectors, with recreational space accounting for nearly 30% of the geography. It is considered a beacon for India’s smart city program.
BREMEN, Germany – When the City of Bremen needed to modernize the heating systems in several of its buildings, it analyzed the project and realized an opportunity to do more. Besides improving energy efficiency, there was the potential to implement a new building management system (BMS) that would bring greater control and provide far-reaching positive effects across the city’s extensive portfolio of properties.
BARCELONA, Spain – Managing the infrastructure of a major city that is home to more than 1.6 million residents and boasts a thriving tourism market of over 8 million visitors annually, requires the efficient management of everyday services such as water, landscape, elevators, escalators and wastewater.
The more effectively these services are managed, the greater the contribution to the health and well-being of all who use them. To address the critical infrastructure challenges faced by the City of Barcelona and its complex network of public works, software from AVEVA was implemented to achieve an overall efficient operation of all municipal services.
